We hope you are well and enjoying the warmer spring weather! We wanted to alert you to a couple of updates with Baltimore County Department of Aging’s Caregiver Support Program.

First, our Spring Newsletter has been released! If you are signed up to receive the newsletter via email or standard mail, you should be receiving it soon! It can also be accessed on our website at https://www.baltimorecountymd.gov/departments/aging/caregivers/caregiver-connection

We also wanted to remind everyone about a few exciting events that are happening this Spring! Please see details below and feel free to click on attached flyers.


Dealing with Dementia Workshop
Friday, April 25 - 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. - Ateaze Senior Center
This evidence-based program provides you with a free 300 + page guide. The session walks you through how to use the guide as you care for your loved one living with dementia. Topics will include: Understanding Dementia, Managing Problem Behaviors, Handling Stress and much more!  Register in advance by emailing caregivers@baltimorecountymd.gov or calling 410-887-4724.
 

Hear Better: Hearing Technology Resources & Services           
 Thursday, May 8 from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. – Virtual

Join the  Assistive Technology Program from Maryland’s Department of Disabilities as they discuss resources and services available for hearing technology, such as hearing aids. Register in advance by emailing caregivers@baltimorecountymd.gov or calling 410-887-4724.
 

Caregiver Virtual Mini-Conference: Nourishing Caregivers: Mind, Body, Spirit!           
Friday, May 30 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. – Virtual

This year we will focus on ways that caregivers can help nourish their mind, body, and spirit. Register by May 26 at https://bcwebservices.wufoo.com/forms/annual-spring-caregiver-miniconference/.  Guest presenters include the following:
  • Nourish the Mind: “Partnering with Care: Managing Caregiver Stress While Prioritizing Mental Health” with the Mental Health Association of Maryland
  • Nourish the Body: “Nutritional Support for Caregivers” with Jessica O’Hara-Anderson, MS, Community Nutritionist with the Baltimore County Department of Aging
  • Nourish the Spirit: “Finding Joy in Caregiving” with Emily Kearns, PhD, CDP, Dementia Friendly Coordinator
Let’s Learn about Baltimore County Public Library’s Mobile Services            
Thursday, June 12 from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. – Virtual

Join this webinar with the Baltimore County Public Library to learn about the Mobile Services they provide, such as Library by Mail and the Bookmobile. To register, contact the Caregiver Support Program at 410-887-4724 or caregivers@baltimorecountymd.gov.
 

Caregiver Resource Sessions
Join the BCDA Caregiver Support Program staff to learn about resources and receive guidance. Contact the senior center to register for in-person sessions. To register for virtual sessions, email caregivers@baltimorecountymd.gov or call 410-887-4724.

  • Tuesday, May 6 - Essex Senior Center - 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. – Call 410-887-0267.

And one last reminder, we still have spots open on Trualta for caregivers! Trualta is an online platform providing support and education for caregivers. Trualta provides access to a library of information tailored to your specific needs, as well as virtual support groups and care coaches. Contact us today to get registered at no cost!
