Fox’s Tucker Carlson delivered big audience numbers for Fox News on Monday – his show was most-watched in all of basic cable in total viewers, and was most-watched in cable news among the valuable demographic of viewers age 25-54.

Tucker Carlson Tonight drew 3.37 million total viewers Monday, and 578,000 in the demo. The Rachel Maddow Show was the second most-watched show, with 2.93 million total viewers, and third in the demo, with 437,000. The Five was third, with 2.84 million total viewers, and 409,000 in the demo.

MEDIA LOSER:
Dr. Anthony Fauci

Dr. Anthony Fauci side-stepped a question today about whether there was evidence to support keeping vaccinated Americans at home.

The Biden administration says they "make decisions based on science," said CNN’s John Berman, in asking Fauci, “What’s the science behind not saying it’s safe for people who have been vaccinated, who have received two doses, to travel?”

“You know, that’s a very good question, John,” Fauci's less than inspiring answer began. After covering some background, he continued, saying, "They want to get science, they want to get data. And then when you don’t have the data, and you don’t have the actual evidence, then you’ve got to make a judgment call."

In peak "just follow the science" times, on a maximum "follow the science" network, against increasingly loud critics, to answer that it's not science but a judgment call isn't exactly what you'd call a smooth answer. Nor helpful to people trying to understand what's next.

Mission Accomplished II

MSNBC anchor Stephanie Ruhle pressed House Democratic Caucus Chair Hakeem Jeffries for saying “Mission: accomplished” with regard to President Joe Biden’s $1.9 trillion Covid relief plan, when there are still millions unemployed, living in poverty, and food-insecure.

On Wednesday morning’s edition of MSNBC Live With Stephanie Ruhle, the host took exception with remarks that Rep. Jeffries made duding a press conference about the Covid relief bill, in which he ticked through the benefits of the plan — funding vaccinations for “every American,” cash for “struggling” Americans, safely reopening schools, spurring job growth by “supercharging” the economy, and helping small businesses —  and declared “Mission accomplished” for each of them.

“Yesterday I heard you say it over and over: Mission accomplished,” Ruhle said, “Mission accomplished getting this bill through, but let’s be honest, with all due respect, $1400.00 is important, but it’s not going to deliver someone from long-term from poverty. Food assistance is not a substitute for a long-term good paying job. And we’ve still got 250 million Americans that haven’t gotten the vaccine.”

“How can we say mission accomplished yet?” she asked.

Twist that blade.

At Tuesday's briefing, CNN’s Kaitlan Collins and White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki teamed up to lampoon former President Donald Trump for delaying the first round of stimulus checks so they could include his signature.

"This is not about him; this is about the American people getting relief — almost 160 million of them," said Psaki.

Collins kept setting up the shots and Psaki kept spiking the ball.
