News Headlines For the second time in less than six months, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is being questioned on its ability to regulate the safety of medical devices. Many are asking why the agency has allowed the INRatio monitor, a blood-testing device, to remain on the market after thousands of malfunctions and injuries reports. Last year, 1,043 hospitals (31.5% of those analyzed) were recognized by The Joint Commission's Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® program. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) finally published its Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Chronic Pain on March 15. However, the guidelines are voluntary and after months of protests, some question how many in the healthcare sector will adopt them.
