Catastrophic bridge collisions unlikely on Louisiana waterways, experts say

Louisiana officials and transportation experts say total bridge collapses caused by a collision — such as the one this week in Baltimore — are extremely unlikely here.

But some say Louisiana should more fully examine the risk of collisions from waterway traffic.


The state Senate has approved a bill that would bar cities, towns and parishes from passing laws that could impede federal immigration enforcement or prevent local police from helping federal agents carry out those efforts.

It is part of a national conservative backlash against "sanctuary cities."


Launched in 2013, the Delcambre Seafood and Farmers Market features up to 60 vendors, live music and fishermen who sell their catch fresh off the boat.

"Local is better," Suzanne Dugas says of the market, which is open on the first Saturday morning of the month between March and December.
