| I was still sleeping at my brotherβs beach house when he burst through the door. βI took the dog down to the beach, and there are fish everywhere!β In a flash, we were speed-walking the 200 yards to the water, fly rods in hand. The tide was low, and birds were diving over pods of fish breaking the surface all around. For the next two hours, we stood in knee-deep water on a sand flat, sight-casting to cruising striped bass. It was exciting and nerve-wracking to watch a big striper chase the fly right to your rod tip and then turn away, and for every strike, we got five follows. We each landed several before the action switched off. Best wake-up call ever. |
