Catching catfish — with their bare hands

"Noodling" is the fine art of catching catfish with your bare hands. While the practice hasn't exactly been illegal in Louisiana, the Legislature only recently made it explicitly legal.

Want to see what it's like to go noodling? This story, with its wild quotes, photos and videos, is the closest you're going to get — unless you go stick your hands in a mudhole yourself. 


In April 1983, a catastrophic flood swept across parts of Tangipahoa Parish. Local residents blamed the newly constructed Interstate 12, saying a bridge blocked water and made the deluge worse.

For nearly 40 years, more than 1,000 people who flooded have been seeking recompense from the state. Yesterday, the Legislature approved $101.5 million for them.

Here's what that means for the decades-long conflict. 


The national political landscape shook Monday night when former President Donald Trump said the FBI had searched his home in Florida.
