Good Morning Voornaam,

Public spats are rare on the market. Most fights happen behind closed doors, far away from the prying eyes of the media. This isn't the case with Caxton's attempt to take control of Mpact, with a particularly inflammatory press release from Caxton blowing it wide open for all to see.

The allegations are significant. Caxton notes a Competition Commission investigation into Mpact and Golden Era (a competitor and 10% shareholder in Mpact) and even alleges that the Mpact board has failed in its disclosure duties. When words like "secret representations" and "cartel" get thrown around, you know it's getting very serious.

In addition to the details on this spat, Ghost Bites includes not es on Telkom's response to rain, Mondi's agreement to sell its Russian operations (and the incredible complexities of implementing that deal), Novus' agreement to acquire 75% of Pearson South Africa and financial results from Resilient and Distell. You can read what the fund managers are reading and you can do it for free every morning in Ghost Bites.

I also have exciting news about a webinar coming up this Thursday. I am a co-founder of bizval, an online valuation tool that helps founders obtain a valuation of their companies at a fraction of the cost of hiring a professional team to do it. In a free webinar at 12pm this Thursday, we will be explaining the art and science of valuations, including how macroeconomic factors impact valuations and how important this becomes for founders when selling a company or investors when buying shares in one. Please note, this is aimed at founders rather than investors in public companies, though all are welcome to attend and learn. We will likely have to limit attendance, so don't delay in registering at this link.

This morning's reading list:

    Daily market wrap with TreasuryONE:

Heading into the weekend, the currency markets traded sideways with no meaningful action in the forex market. The rand pulled back as expected after running hard for a couple of days. The major event this week is the FOMC minutes on Wednesday, which will give us insights into how the Fed is thinking. T hese will be weighed against the current data releases as the market forms a view, so volatility after the release can be expected. For the first part of the week though, TreasuryONE expects the market to sit on its hands for the most part.

I hope you have an excellent start to your week! Thanks for kicking it off with Ghost Mail.
