Good evening,

Good evening,

The shortest day of the year, the winter solstice, is due on Monday.

And to celebrate, Commonwealth Bank of Australia is trying to finalise a transaction for its chunky general insurance unit, which has about $800 million a year in gross written premiums.

The group’s bankers and lawyers were busy trying to stitch together a deal over the weekend to announce as early as Monday morning, as revealed by this column on Sunday afternoon.

Elsewhere tonight, we take a look at which sovereign wealth fund has been fielding pitches from investment banks for the right to sell its big stake in an ASX 100 company.

And finally, we check back in to one of the longest-mooted deals in the Australian media industry.

Happy reading,
