CDC calls for ’aggressive approach’ after ’nightmare bacteria’ found in many states

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention sounded the alarm this week after it found that "nightmare bacteria" capable of resisting most antibiotics have popped up across the country, but it also expressed optimism that "an aggressive approach can snuff them out" before they become widespread.

Acuity-adaptable rooms, microhospitals are tech trends on NFPA radar

ECRI Institute released its annual top 10 list of technology-related issues that hospitals and health systems should pay close attention to over the next 12–18 months. The NFPA believes building and life safety professionals should keep an eye on two trends from the list: acuity-adaptable rooms and microhospitals.

IAHSS issues Threat Management Guideline for response to violence

Looking to reduce workplace violence in the healthcare industry, IAHSS released a new Threat Management Guideline that stated that "healthcare facilities should establish a process and multidisciplinary team to identify, assess, validate, mitigate, and respond to threats of violence or other behaviors of concern.” 

Facility workers, contractors must now be trained in fall protection

Remember to provide fall-protection training to any worker at your facility who may be exposed to a fall of more than 4 feet and ensure contractors are also meeting the safety requirements under the newly revised OSHA standard. In addition, any fixed ladders over 24 feet must be equipped with fall arrest or safety systems.
