The Cheltenham Festival takes place in March each year. It is often around St Patrick’s day. This year it begins on
Tuesday 12th March and runs to Friday 15th March.

History

Although there are records of horse racing as early as 1815 in Cheltenham, the first Cheltenham Gold Cup was held in 1819.

In the early days this was a flat race over about 3 miles. It is now a jump race with 22 jumps spanning roughly 3 miles.

The Cheltenham Gold Cup is now regarded as the highlight of the whole event!

Winning Jockeys And Trainers For The Last Few Years!

2018 Davey Russell was best jockey over all and Gordon Elliott the best trainer.

2017 Ruby Walsh took best jockey with again Gordon Elliott as the best trainer.

2016 Again saw Ruby Walsh as the best jockey and with Willie Mullins taking best trainer.

Can either Gordon Elliott as trainer or Ruby Walsh as jockey make it to a top spot again this year?
Ladies Day

Along with the racing excitement that covers this 4 day event there is also a lot of excitement every year about Ladies Day on day two.

Each year this sees may flock to the event in all their finery for what always proves to be a spectacular show of color and imagination. This year looks set to continue in that vein. I wonder what wonderful creations of fashion we will see for 2019!
