When (and Where) Texas Became Texas

The “Texas Independence Day Celebration” is a free annual two-day living history celebration of Texas declaring its independence from Mexico in 1897. From 10 AM to 6 PM on Saturday, February 29 and 10 AM to 3 PM Sunday, March 1, you and your family can gather on the 300-acre Washington on the Brazos State Historic Site to commemorate when 59 delegates bravely met in 1836 to make a formal declaration of independence from Mexico and form a new nation. What better place to celebrate Texas independence than on the very spot “Where Texas Became Texas”?
