Our Lady of Lourdes, Pray for Us!
In 1858, a 14-year-old peasant girl, Bernadette Soubirous, was gathering firewood in the French countryside when a beautiful woman, standing on a rock in a natural grotto, appeared to her.
This began a series of 18 apparitions in which Bernadette talked to and prayed with Our Lady. On one visit, she instructed Bernadette to dig into the dry ground and drink from the spring that flowed there. Although no water was visible, Bernadette scratched at the ground and a spring began to bubble up. The water flows there to this day.
For countless years, faithful pilgrims have journeyed to Lourdes to experience its miraculous healing properties. Today is the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes and we want to share in that celebration with you.
