Voornaam,

Today is International Women’s Day, and it’s one of those holidays that’s not on most folks’ radar. We'll see a short news blip about it and move on to the next story with little thought.

The first International Women’s Day was more than 100 years ago, in 1911, with its roots tracing back to 1908 with the Labor and Suffrage movements.

More than a century later the struggles continue, and it's worth more than a casual glance in these times, as we are shrouded by a horrific war in Ukraine.

While International Women’s Day is about uplifting women, today we should be more cognizant of how women uplift humankind. In the face of the most unspeakable violence and heart-wrenching suffering, women step forward as both the universal caregivers and iconic heroes.

Awash in tragedy, women – from mom to doctor to soldier and so much more – give humanity hope.

Thank you,

KC Hanson
