Latine Americans make up over half of all agricultural workers in the United States. As farm operators and food business owners, many are also digging into their agricultural heritage to transform our local food system. In honor of National Latine Heritage Month (which runs September 15-October 15), we are spotlighting a few stories from our Latine farmers market community.

For these farmers and food makers, who you’ll recognize at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market and Mission Community Market, carrying on their family’s farming legacy connects them with the land and their cultural heritage. They’re also honoring sustainability practices used on their families’ farms in Mexico, while bringing their own vision for our food future here in California.

On Wednesday, September 13, join us for a conversation with local farmers, food makers, and chefs to discuss what it takes to run a food business in the the Bay Area, and what we can all do to keep our communities nourished and local food system thriving. Seating is limited. RSVP now!

Don't Miss Pop-Ups on the Plaza: Fall Kickoff

Celebrate local Black-owned businesses and kick off the harvest season with a day of delicious food, community, and family fun at the Embarcadero Ferry Terminal Plaza and Ferry Plaza Farmers Market. Entry is free and open to the public, and food and drinks will be available for purchase.

Shredded Tofu Miso Noodles

At the Foodwise Classroom, Minh Tsai, founder of Hodo, shared this recipe from food blogger Tiff Loves Tofu. This light, simple, and comforting noodle dish features Hodo's new Miso Tofu, found at their Ferry Plaza booth on Saturdays.

Ferry Plaza Farmers Market: Featured Vendors

Rosa Martinez’s moles, tamales, enchiladas, and trail mix are inspired by her childhood in Oaxaca. As part of Foodwise's Building Equity program, she will be popping up at theLa Cocina stand in September.

Based in Sacramento, Kushinda Little started Yummy Honey Co. in 2020. On Tuesdays, sweeten your week with California Buckwheat Honey, Wildflower Honey, and Star Thistle and Sage Honey.

Mission Community Market: Featured Vendors

Our Water Our World is a public outreach & education program working to prevent pesticides from polluting waterways. Stop by their pop-up on Thursday with any questions about gardens or pests.

In the Mission on Thursdays, and at the Ferry Plaza on Saturdays, Alexandre Family Farm brings Regenerative Organic A2/A2 milk, yogurt, and pasture-raised eggs from Crescent City.
