Dear Friend,

Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!

This week was filled with pivotal moments that are set to positively influence the future of education in profound ways. A key highlight was National School Choice Week, where we celebrated the transformative impact education freedom has on the lives of so many students and families. I’m proud of the strides Republicans have made in advocating for policies that champion individual liberty and improve educational opportunities to change the trajectory of families from every background. The progress we’ve witnessed so far is just the beginning, and I’m looking forward to the continued positive impact of these efforts!

While we had much to celebrate, my heart breaks for all the victims and their families of the tragic plane crash over the Potomac. May God extend His healing and loving hand on this nation and all of those affected by this tragedy. I’m grateful for the first responders who have courageously carried out the rescue and recovery mission.

“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”

Jeremiah 29:11

Week in Review

Celebrating School Choice Week

This week, I celebrated the impact education freedom has on the lives of so many students and families. School Choice Week also serves as a stark reminder that a quality education is still out of reach to countless children who desperately need it. Leaving the future of America’s children to chance is simply not an option. Transforming our nation’s education system and ensuring every child has access to a quality education must be our call to action every single day.

As co-chair of the Congressional School Choice Caucus and member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, I joined Senator Bill Cassidy (R-La.), Senate HELP Committee Chairman, in introducing a Senate resolution recognizing January 26 – February 1 as National School Choice Week. This week, I also joined Senator Cassidy in reintroducing the Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA) to expand education freedom and opportunity for students. By empowering families with more educational resources and freedom, this bill will give families opportunities that have been out of reach for students to succeed. On Wednesday, the Invest in Education Coalition hosted an event in support of National School Choice Week, and I was proud to champion the rights of parents to choose the school that best fits their child’s individual talents and needs. Watch my full remarks here!

Introducing Kelly Loeffler at Confirmation Hearing

I introduced former Senator Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga.), President Trump’s nominee to lead the U.S. Small Business Administration, at her confirmation hearing on Wednesday. As a small business owner for 15 years, I have great confidence in Kelly Loeffler’s ability to lead the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Confirmation of Scott Bessent

This Monday, the United States Senate confirmed Scott Bessent to serve as U.S. Secretary of the Treasury. His confirmation is great news for the pockets of American taxpayers. He understands the cataclysmic repercussions the middle class will face if provisions of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act expire. With his great success as an entrepreneur, he will help ensure all Americans have the necessary tools to reach financial freedom. I am excited to work with the President and Secretary Bessent to unleash economic opportunity for all Americans!

Post and Courier: Sen. Tim Scott questions RFK Jr. on abortion views, sickle cell and drug supply chain

By Caitlin Byrd

January 30, 2025

U.S. Sen. Tim Scott pushed Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to publicly commit to hiring people who hold anti-abortion views if he becomes the nation's next health secretary, getting a verbal commitment from President Donald Trump's nominee that he would do so.

Kennedy appeared before Senate health committee on Jan. 30 for his second confirmation hearing in as many days, where Scott, R-S.C., sought to hold Kennedy to a pledge that he made in private.

Scott said Kennedy had personally assured him that, if his is confirmed to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, his deputies would be "pro-life." Scott said he wanted to know if that was still the case.
