Cancer treatment has come a long way in recent years. But it's still tough. For those who have extended stays in the hospital, it can be especially difficult. |
That's why four times a year — Spring, Independence Day, Halloween and Winter Holidays — The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center organizes a chemotherapy pole parades. |
Patients love preparing for these events, which are great distractions from their treatments. They often get inventive and sometimes a little competitive — dressing up in costumes, coming up with themes or adding lights to their poles. |
"The pole parades are opportunities for patients and family members to temporarily forget about their medical concerns and have a little fun," says nurse Marla Pierce. |
Visitors and MD Anderson staff line the halls to cheer on the patients. The parades provide a time to celebrate their strength and remind them they're not alone. |
|
, you also can let our patients know they’re not alone by making a gift now. |
Your support helps honor their fight and moves MD Anderson closer to Making Cancer History®. |
