The uncertainty remains

One thing you can say with certainty these days: the uncertainty remains. This is the case for the French elections this weekend as well as for the Brexit negotiations. For the latter it is the EU 27 guidelines for the negotiations which the UK does not seem to like. The fact that the EU wants to negotiate the divorce first and only after this is settled a future trade treaty would be spoken about, has obviously forced Prime minister May into saying, that she could imagine negotiations even without a result at the end. Only the French voters could add to the uncertainty this weekend by deciding not only on their next President but also on the future of the EU as a whole.
Internal Electricity Market - Part 1
The recast of the Electricity Market Directive aims to give consumers a stronger influence on the retail electricity market and generally protect the market against state intervention. In cep’s view, however, it is misguided for electricity suppliers to have to offer tariffs with dynamic electricity prices when there is no corresponding demand.

Renewable Energy Post-2021
The share of renewable energy in overall EU energy consumption is to increase to 27% by 2030. This is set out in the EU Commission’s Proposal for a Directive to promote energy from renewable sources (“renewables”) post-2021. In cep’s view, the Proposal allows Member States too much scope for developing inefficient and anti-competitive renewables support schemes.

New types of telecommunications services and end-user rights
The EU Commission wants to create a level playing field for providers of conventional and new types of electronic communications services (OTT services) and largely harmonise end-user rights. In cep's view, there is however no justification for the many proposed exceptions for number-independent interpersonal communications services in the area of end-user rights.

EUR 347.6 million - Nis the rent for the EU Medicines Agency (EMA) in London until 2039. According to a report from the European Parliament's Budgetary Control Committee the contract does not contain an exit clause. But the agency has to leave London because of Brexit.
