Destination Brexit
Will there be a hard or soft Brexit or a No Deal? This question is already more than two years old but at various levels in London, Brussels and even Berlin, preparations are under way for the worst-case scenario - No Deal. Neither the EU nor the government in London wants this and so they have agreed on a transition period. As a logical consequence, the Foreign Office in Berlin has prepared the first draft of a Brexit transition law, which would give us something useful to work on in the summer holidays, if it were not for one small problem: this transition period will only come into effect if both sides soon agree on the conditions of the divorce and the withdrawal agreement is ratified by next March. But many issues are still undecided. In July, not unreasonably, the EU Commission took the pragmatic approach of issuing a Communication which called upon companies to prepare for a No-Deal Brexit. The message that London should not underestimate the EU’s willingness to accept the failure of negotiations should be given consideration on both sides of the Channel. |

Facts
About four million people worldwide found holiday accommodation via Airbnb in 2017. Nevertheless, the EU Commission and consumer protection authorities are complaining about unclear pricing and unlawful terms and conditions and have given the US concern until the end of August to come up with changes. Further measures are threatened if satisfactory improvements are not made. |
