Santos y Cruces Show

This Year marks the 15^th annual Santos y Cruces show held at CHAC gallery here in the heart of Denver’s Santa Fe Arts District. This show consists of a collective collaboration of the premiere Santeros and Santeras (Santo artists) from Colorado. This show will highlight the traditional techniques as well as contemporary santos as well.

The 15^th Annual Santos Y Cruces show will also highlight an educational background on the history of Santos as well as workshops for adults and children alike to learn and create your own retablos. This show will also feature a special presentation ceremony to honor Denver’s own and long time CHAC Gallery and internationally renowned artist Carlos Santistevan.

Saturday April 9^th Kids Retablo/Santos Workshop 1:00-3:00 PM with Ron Miera $15

Students will learn the process, a History and create their own miniature Retablo 

Saturday April 16^th Santeros Panel Discussion 1:00-3:00 PM FREE

 

Sit in on a panel discussion with a hand full of Santo Artists discussing key aspects of Santo Culture and technique 

 

 

 Saturday April 23^rd Hands on Adult Retablo Workshop with Al Florence 1:00-3:00 $20

 

Bring your group of friends or ride solo and join us for a afternoon of creating your own step by step Retablo, $20 cover fee includes a beverage and light appetizers (Limited 20 slots available)

CHAC Norte Artists for March:

Tony Ankele- This April I'd like to share a few paintings of musical artists that have inflme in both the past and present. We have all been blessed with so many talented artists in every genera. A song or artist can trigger the recall of many memories and events in our lives and can last a life time locked In our heads. This will be the start of a musical artist series I am painting. I hope you enjoy them as mTony Ankele  

Michael Penny- Myths, symbols, and legends permeate all languages, cultures and lives. The influence mythology has in our most basic traditions can be observed in the language, customs, rituals, values and morals of every culture. One way of understanding a culture is to study the underlying mythological beliefs, the symbols used to represent myths, and understanding the legends of a culture. Such an exploration leads to a greater understanding of the essence of a culture.
 I try to express the myths, symbols, and legends of ancient cultures through my art.

Stevon Lucero  has reached the third and final stage of his life, painting his profound visions with power and beauty.  His prices for the large Metarealism has permanently gone up.  Smaller quick pieces are not only affordable, but priced to sell.

Joe N. Martinez -Doors and doorways have been symbolic across several cultures as long as history has been recorded. Doors represent several different things. They can be inviting and exciting.....not knowing what you might find on the other side. It can be an entrance or an exist. I prefer to associate this series of my photographs as and entrance.....to a new and exciting beginning to the New Year!  I am excited to see what unfolds and what is behind these beautiful doors.

Most of my photographs are taken in Colorado and New Mexico. I find photography to be a very spiritual experience

Maria Lopez was born and raised in Pueblo, CO. She paints large representational abstractions on canvas and other things. She has shown nationally and internationally. Classically-trained in painting and drawing since age 23, she draws inspiration for her art from popular culture. She has an M.F.A. from Boston University, has studied at The Courtauld in England, and has taught art history and studio art at universities in Massachusetts and Colorado. Call for entries

“I’m one part saint and two part sinner.” – Godsmack
Sinners, saints and self-reflection are the inspiration for the works in this show. Artists, through various mediums, will not only delve into the world of sinners and saints, but also look inside and provide a rendition of themselves as a saint, sinner, or something in-between.

ELIGIBILITY
Work must be original. Art must be suitable for a family friendly environment.  It is at the jurors’ discretion to choose single or multiple works from each artist’s submission.

Entry fee and instructions:  $15 (up to three entries). The fee will be refunded if the artist is not invited to participate. Submit your images in JPEG format and title each file with your full name and entry number. For example: fridakahlo_1.jpeg.
