A Few Highlights for 2023!
Our education department has also been busy! In partnership with MSU Denver Journey Through Our Heritage CHAC had a blast at their youth Jaguar Camp teaching cultural art workshops and Aztec dance. CHAC artists have also been busy taking cultural art into the schools! If you have young ones in the Denver Metro and greater area, they might have Frida Kahlo Self Portraits, Jaguar Masks, Flores de Papel, Ojos de Dios, and Flowerpots hanging up! Not only have CHAC artists taught youth workshops, but we love having family workshops where the whole family can create together, like in our collaging with recycled goods, gourd painting and empanada making workshops.

We kicked of the year with an exhibit called “Fantasy and Dreams” where CHAC artists’ imaginations swirled around the gallery with dream like landscapes and fantastical creatures. This was a first of a kind exhibit at CHAC Gallery. “The Eyes of Photographers” in March took us to the world of Chicano Photographers and the beautiful images they capture, focused on explorations and images that delight us. To welcome summer the exhibit “Flor y Canto” brought us out of the cooler weather and got us ready for the summer months, a celebration of abundance and the renewal of spirit in Mother Earth and her people.

This year CHAC Gallery held two Dia de Los Muertos community celebrations, CHAC@40 West and CHAC Gallery on Santa Fe Drive, both featuring the work of CHAC artists. CHAC is among the first organizations to open a public space for the community to celebrate Dia de Los Muertos. We have had families coming to share this holiday with us for over 50 years. We get to see families that started with CHAC 50 years ago bringing their grandchildren and great-grandchildren to celebrate this important and sacred holiday. In addition to having a Dia de Los Muertos exhibit, community celebration and education workshops in our new home CHAC collaborated with the Breck Create, Brighton Armory Performing Arts Center, Denver Public Libraries, and Aurora Fox Theater to bring Dia de Los Muertos art exhibits and programming to the Denver Metro area and beyond.
