Chalets, street food and seasonal pop upsThings are looking very festive indeed at the Southbank Centre!
London’s riverside winter wonderland turns ten!Alpine-style chalets, twinkling fairy lights illuminating the Thames, pop ups offering just about every kind of seasonal indulgence you can think of — the Southbank Centre’s Winter Market has festive fun down to a fine art. And this year’s edition is extra special, as the Southbank Centre celebrates a whole decade of riverside merriment. On top of returning favourites like Truffle Burger and The Duck Shed, the Winter Market’s 2024 street food offering has expanded to include The Cheese Toaster, Voodoo Fries and Pabellon. Sweet treats come courtesy of Utter Waffle, Dutch Pancakes and Salvador Churros, all of which would go down very nicely indeed with a Belgian hot chocolate (Blend + Roast), seasonal ale (The Hop Locker), or a variety of mulled delights (Winter Warmers, honestfolk). Speaking of drinks, we highly recommend swinging by The Thirsty Farrier for a gingerbread martini and adding a frisson of drama to festive imbibing, c/o Beltane & Pop’s Feuerzangenbowle (mulled wine served with flaming sugar). Both bars join Fire & Fromage by Jimmy Garcia, and The Curling Club and Electric Winter on this year’s elite roster of pop ups. As well as offering food, drink, and festive fun, Southbank Centre’s Winter Market is a great place to pick up unique gifts, with independent craft traders like The Great British Bee Co, Pincho Poncho Alpaca Wool and Linnet Jewellery setting up shop for the season. Find it at Queen’s Walk until 26 December. A great gift for wine loversKnow someone with a passion for pét-nat?
