Recreation Services Update
Recent staff changes within Recreation Services have resulted in a change of Club Development Officer. Some of you may have met me previously, so for those that haven't, I'd like to take this opportunity to briefly introduce myself and give a snapshot of my background within sports clubs.
Like many of you, I got involved with sports clubs because of my kids' interests, so I've carried out a wide variety of committee roles over a number of years. This was predominantly within hockey and little athletics, however I've also been heavily involved in recreational running and coaching in the last 10 years, which included a lot work with the incorporation process, and creating constitutions and by-laws.
Committees and volunteers are the heartbeat of our community clubs, whether providing sports opportunities for kids or taking part themselves and being driven to keep the clubs running. Our continuing aim is to assist Cockburn clubs with resources to make their job easier and to comply with best practice methods.
Please feel free to get in touch if you have any club-related questions or need for assistance. Any suggestions or requests for topics you would like to see covered are welcomed, if it's something your club (and maybe others), is struggling with. This could be in the monthly eNews or as a separate workshop or training session. Please also see below for a new newsletter section where clubs are invited to share their achievements.
I look forward to getting to know and working with all clubs more in the future.

| Cockburn Cobras Football Club Beyond Blue Round and Community Day The Cockburn Cobras Football Club has held its annual Cockburn Community and Family Day for the past two years to build a wider community connection with the club. It’s an opportunity to showcase the club to the local residents and wider community and for them to enjoy a day at their local football club. By doing so, the aim is to build a better connection to the community and show that they are more than just a football club, they are a community club where you can come down as either a player, supporter, or volunteer. The club runs the Community Day in conjunction with their Beyond Blue round, to raise awareness for mental health. It is an opportunity to show the community that sporting clubs play an important role in mental health by creating a healthy and safe environment for all to join. It was a successful day, and the club believes they achieved their goal in creating a connection with the wider community and local families on the day. They also raised important awareness and funding for Beyond Blue and mental health initiatives. In the week prior to the event, teams take part in Bouncing Back, a mental health awareness training program. League and Reserve teams wear guernseys specially created for the Beyond Blue round. The social media campaign to promote the event worked well and the activities on the day were successful in delivering a community style event and raising valuable funds for Beyond Blue. Visit the Richmond Wellbeing website for more information on the Bouncing Back program. |
