Free Club Health Checks - Nominate Now

Do you know how your club is really going?

Recreation Services is offering ten Cockburn clubs the opportunity to have a free Club Health Check.

Provided by CLUBMAP, the Health Checks will be commencing mid-year, providing clubs that take part with an excellent opportunity to identify key areas of concern and undertake actions to address them across the next 12 months, with a follow-up survey to gauge progress.

The committee rates the club across a range of topics which are then assessed to create a custom Action Plan to guide your club towards the areas most in need of attention.

The Club Health Check comprises a survey of 11 key categories:

Operational Categories           Revenue Categories
Planning                                     Membership
Committee                                 Sponsorship
Volunteers                                  Fundraising and Fund-saving
Finance                                      Digital Communication
Governance                               Grants
Sport Operations

If your club would like to be considered for one of these health checks, please complete the online Nomination Form .

If more than ten clubs wish to participate, a panel will assess all nominations to select ten to go forward. Some clubs may be specifically invited to take part. Clubs will be notified by June if their nominations are successful.

Please contact the Club Development Officer on 9411 3444 or to recreation@cockburn.wa.gov.au with any questions.

Cockburn Club Hub

Thank you to all those that attended the first Cockburn Club Hub, held at the Lakelands Hockey and Sporting Facility and co-hosted by the Fremantle Cockburn Hockey Club.

Recreation Services Officers ran through the many avenues that the City can assist sporting clubs, such as grants, booking venues, and future plans for facility upgrades in the Community, Sport and Recreation Facility Plan Review.

The hockey club gave a brief overview of their club and operations before more informal networking and information sharing between clubs took place.

Please email recreation@cockburn.wa.gov.au for a copy of the slide presentation from the evening, which includes all of the resources discussed on the night.

Another Club Hub will be held later this year with a different local club as co-host.

If you are Cockburn based sports club and are interested in being a co-host for events such as Club Hubs or workshops, please complete the Expression of Interest
Jack Rickie makes his Fremantle Cockburn Hockey Club Premier 1 Grade debut at the ripe old age of 95!

Based at the Lakelands Hockey and Sporting Facility in South Lake, the Magpies kickstarted their 2023 campaign and 90th anniversary celebrations with Jack Rickie taking the push back in their Premier 1 Men's opening match.

Jack, a club life member since 1974, made the game day squad and took to Bateau Turf for his 217th appearance in the Black & White. He is the Magpies oldest surviving life member and held the position of Treasurer from 1965 to 1998.

Jack epitomises the spirit of the club and there was a real buzz around his return to the field after a lengthy hiatus. When asked how he felt about adding to his games tally, that began in 1952, he said with a broad smile that he was "absolutely wrapped" and on his love for the club "the friendships made over the years, we've been blessed with wonderful people, to play with and off the field as well".  See the news footage here.

Jack joined the squad in the change rooms post-match for a rendition of the club victory song after the 4-2 home win over Victoria Park Panthers before promptly announcing his retirement for the second time in his hockey career.

Planning - essentials for a club plan

Planning is an ongoing process that allows your club to plan for the future, set objectives and targets, and demonstrate how goals will be achieved; it gives direction for your committee and members.

Essentials for a club plan
  • Snapshot of your club (where are we now?)
  • Purpose Statement (why do we exist? What do we do?)
  • Guiding Principles/Values (what is important to us?)
  • Action plan (how are you going to achieve your club goals?)
Find an editable Club Checklist to start identifying where your club is right now.
Or, nominate to be one of ten clubs to receive a free Club Health Check with follow up support to address identified areas of concern
