Spring is approaching and we are eagerly awaiting bird migration. One of the most special places during migration is Eilat in Israel. Eilat is located along the route of over hundreds of million birds and is the venue for the Champions of the Flyway Birdrace (COTF). COTF is a well known fund- and awareness-raising event in global birding and conservation circles. Since the beginning in 2014 the conservation community has managed to raise around $500,000 for projects tackling the illegal killing of birds migrating along the flyways.
The latest campaign – culminating in the famous 24-hour Bird Race on March 27th – is in collaboration with the Association for the Conservation of Biovidersity of Kazakhstan (ACBK) and the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB), BirdLife International’s partners along these critical flyway, stopover and wintering sites for one of the world’s most threatened goose species, the Red-Breasted Geese. |
