Thousands of people waited hours to pay their respects to George Floyd at a viewing

The 90-degree Houston heat did little to deter those who wanted to pay their respects to Floyd, whose death in police custody sparked worldwide protests, at a public viewing memorial on Monday. The six-hour viewing at the Fountains of Praise church was the last memorial open to the public for Floyd, a former resident of the city and who will have a service for friends and family that will be livestreamed.

Bon Appétit editor-in-chief Adam Rapoport is resigning after a photo of him in brownface surfaced

"I am stepping down as editor in chief of Bon Appétit to reflect on the work that I need to do as a human being and to allow Bon Appétit to get to a better place," Adam Rapoport said in an Instagram post Monday evening.

The announcement comes hours after Tammie Teclemariam, a freelance food and drinks writer, posted a screenshot of a 2013 Instagram post showing Rapoport and his wife dressed up as Puerto Ricans for Halloween.

The US Women's National Team is demanding US soccer apologize to black players for banning kneeling during the anthem

“The Federation should immediately repeal the ‘Anthem Policy,’ publish a statement acknowledging the policy was wrong when it was adopted, and issue an apology to our Black players and supporters,” the national team players said in a statement to BuzzFeed News.

US Soccer will hold a special board meeting todayto discuss its anthem policy, which goes beyond even the National Football League’s rules in its attempts to limit players’ ability to protest.

The woman in the "Lose Yo Job" video told us how it changed her life

Four months ago, Johnniqua Charles was homeless, dealing with an addiction, and estranged from her family when she had a run-in with a security officer, was detained, and started singing "You about to lose yo job."

A video of the incident went viral (along with the ensuing remixes), and Charles says it was a positive thing — helping her family reconnect with her so she can try to rebuild her life with her son.

“Other people keep telling me I helped them so much, but they don’t understand — nobody understands — how much this video going viral like this is helping me,” she said.
