Changing the Story: Our New Campaign is Live!

We’re super excited to let you know that our new fundraising campaign, Changing the Story, is now on! We’re aiming to raise $60,000 by the end of June so that we can strengthen our creative education programs which give all Skateistan students the tools to change their own futures for the better.

We often ask the children at our Skate Schools what they want to be. But for many of them, that’s not an easy thing to imagine. For children growing up in unstable environments, the future can be a difficult concept. If you only see one pattern in life, it’s not easy to dream big.

Together, we can change that.

Our creative education programs spark ideas about how the world could be different and encourage our students to dare to dream of something better. So, if you want to help them to change their own stories, please help us make this campaign a success!

READ: PISEY'S STORY

Pisey is 11 and lives in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. When her dad moved away in search of work, Pisey’s mother needed money and wanted her to help by collecting cans on the street. This meant that Pisey did not go to school and had no friends of her own age.

Pisey registered to take part in the Skate and Create program, which combines the fun and freedom of skateboarding with arts-based education on subjects like human rights, protecting the environment and healthy living.

Pisey wouldn't even speak to her Educators when she first arrived at Skateistan and she refused to join in. Now, she is now confident and brave, with a wide circle of friends.

Throughout our campaign, we'll introduce you to four of our talented students. From Ahmad in Afghanistan who had no opportunity to go to school, to Nthabiseng in South Africa who had no friends her own age, these children are the living proof that everyone can change their story for the better with a little support.
