Aw, nuts: Thrifty squirrels almost destroy a car
When winter approaches, squirrels take their time to store food to last them the season. Usually, theyâll look for someplace warm â so what could be better than the engine of a car? In Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, a local couple experienced a strange burning smell coming from the SUV in their driveway. When they popped the hood, what they saw inside shocked them: More than 200 walnuts taken from the tree in their yard. Further inspection revealed that a family of squirrels had chewed their way in from the bottom and had stowed their precious nuts in the car along with some grass and leaves. Needless to say, the car turned out fine in the end but the squirrels lost their entire savings at the repair shop. Whoâs the real villain here?
Squirrels are smarter than we give them credit for.
