Her legal expertise was an area of tax law. Inside that head full of numbers was a creative force that took a while to fully emerge. She took her first art class when her children were leaving the nest. Her father, who earned his living as an artist, albeit commercial art to support his wife and four kids, decided to take the class with her. He passed away during the semester. This set Cheryl back a few years in her art studies, but she eventually returned and has been learning ever since. Cheryl's primary medium is oil. Her subjects are diverse - portraiture, painting urban and rural landscapes, animals and environments she entitles "dreamcapes." She believes that art should be beautiful to counteract the images flashing across our television and computer screens daily. Arguably this is Cheryl's form of escapism, but she feels that art should be a tangible dream of what the universe can be, full of beauty and color and light. The act of painting is a form of moving meditation for her. In this frenetic world with so much drawing our attention in many different directions, Cheryl's hope is that the viewer of her art may feel a moment of centering. She believes that we are all connected at a deep level. Her art comes from that deep level and she hopes that this is reflected on her canvases. Cheryl has received numerous awards and recognition, including a mention in the Washington Post, and artwork shown on both the January and May, 2020 CBS Sunday Morning show. Even nicer than awards and recognitions, Cheryl has used her art as a means to support local and national pet rescue organizations. She has exhibited at Art & Design Gallery and Hernan Gamboa Gallery in Miami, FL, Wallflowers Gallery in Bernardsville, NJ, The Center for Contemporary Art in Bedminster, NJ, and Gallery Underground in Arlington, Virginia, among other galleries and shows. Her work hangs in many private homes and businesses. She most recently served on the Board of Overseers, and the Executive Board of the Zimmerli Art Museum of Rutgers University. Giving Back Cheryl was recently invited to be one of the artists giving back to the community through generousarts.com. Over the past year her art has raised money for Paws4You rescue in Miami, Florida. Prior to this collaboration, a portion of every artwork sold went to the ASPCA or other pet rescue organizations.
