The Lunch Line: Child shot to death in Algiers. And COVID-depleted Saints on big stage tonight

By Bob Warren

Child fatally shot: A 7-year-old girl died Sunday night after being shot while she rode in a car with her mother and a sibling in Algiers. The child’s death came on the heels of a violent holiday weekend across the metro area. “What can a 7-year-old have possibly done to be a victim of such a heinous crime?” Police Superintendent Shaun Ferguson wondered.

Surge continues: COVID continues to surge across the state and region. The Louisiana Department of Health said yesterday that the number of people hospitalized with the coronavirus has nearly doubled over the past seven days.

Who's that Saint? We knew the Saints were in for a challenging season, what with losing Drew Brees and battling the shrinking salary cap. But the team you’ll see in the Dome for tonight’s pivotal, nationally televised game against the Dolphins will be one a lot of fans might not recognize. COVID has gutted the team's lineup and led to a lot of shuffling. Keep those roster cards handy. Here’s the latest.

Even in their depleted state, our pickers expect the game to be close. Check out what our Saints team's predictions.

Hope you enjoyed the Lunch Line. Thanks for taking a break with us today.
