General Chinese Leap Frog

Recently a parent of one of our students told us that her son loves this happy song. Studying songs like this can help students be more happy while studying Chinese and learn the language quicker. We hope it can help you too!

Leap Frog lyrics:

小跳蛙 (xiǎo tiào wā) Leap Frog

Kuàilè chítáng zāizhòng le mèngxiǎng jiù biàn chéng hǎiyáng.
快乐     池塘      栽种      了     梦想       就  变    成       海洋。
A happy pond planted the dream of becoming an ocean.

Gǔ de yǎnjīng, dà zuǐbā tóngyàng chàng de xiǎngliàng
鼓  的   眼睛,  大 嘴巴     同样       唱      的     响亮。
The drums eyes and big mouth, singing the same sound.

Jiè wǒ yī shuāng xiǎo chìbǎng, jiù néng fēi xiàng tàiyáng.
借  我 一   双       小     翅膀,   就   能    飞   向    太阳。
Lend me a pair of wings, so I can fly to the sun.

Wǒ xiàngxìn qíjì jiù zài shēnshàng.
我     相信  奇迹 就 在     身上。
I believe in miracles.

general chinese noodles

How do you celebrate your birthday? Many might answer: with a birthday cake. In China, there is an ancient tradition that is still in practice today. Instead of having a cake, many might be enjoying birthday noodles. Birthday noodles or 寿面 (shòumiàn) are not just ordinary noodles. They literally mean "long-life noodles" and it is believed that the longer the noodles, the bigger the wish for long life. These noodles also have to be eaten in a special way. It is said the whole noodle should be eaten—bit by bit—without breaking it into pieces. You wouldn't want to cut your life short!

寿面 (shòumiàn) - noodles eaten on one's birthday; birthday noodles
寿 (shòu) comes from "长寿 (cháng shòu) longevity; long life"
面 (miàn) is from "面条 (miàntiáo) noodles"

Often on someone's birthday, their family will make them some homemade noodles or they can go to a restaurant, which will make the noodles specially for their birthday. These noodles have a unique story as to why they are eaten on a birthday, aside from wishing a person long life. Read more
