On one weekend this summer, my wife and I took our young kids for a short hike. We walked past a playground, and after looking to make sure there was no sign saying it was closed because of COVID, we let our children play. Our youngest just turned two. Before the pandemic, she loved going on the swings and we were grateful for the chance to let her do it again. But when we tried to put her in the swing, something surprising happened. She burst into tears. It had been more than 6 months and she forgot. What once was fun, now was scary. It was just one of the little losses of this unusual time we’re living in. Another one of those little losses is that my children haven’t been able to go to children’s church. They miss our children’s pastor, “Captain Keith,” and all their friends in their classes. That’s why I was grateful when the 2021 version of our popular Children’s Bulletins released. While they’re meant for use in a Sunday School classroom, they can be used with equal benefit by children at home. The lessons are accompanied by puzzles, mazes, and other fun exercises. Whether you have kids at home or are still doing children’s ministry in your church (in person or over zoom) you’ll find these helpful.
