Daily Digest for February 11, 2021 Posted at 7:45 a.m. by Michael Olson | Good morning, Chilling security video of last month's deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, including of rioters searching menacingly for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Vice President Mike Pence, has become a key exhibit in Donald Trump's impeachment trial as lawmakers prosecuting the case wrap up their opening arguments for why Trump should be convicted of inciting the siege. The House will continue with its case Thursday, with Trump's lawyers set to launch their defense by week's end. The impeachment managers have another day, and up to eight additional hours to continue prosecuting their case. Aides to the managers told reporters that the team was not planning to use the full time, and they did wrap early on Wednesday evening. Raskin said their intention over the course of the two days is to show that "to us, it may have felt like chaos and madness, but there was method in the madness that day." Thursday they are expected to discuss the toll that attack took on the lawmakers, staff and law enforcement. Biden's school goal draws blowback President Joe Biden is being accused of backpedaling on his pledge to reopen the nationâs schools after the White House added fine print to his promise and made clear that a full reopening is still far from sight. Bidenâs initial pledge in December was to reopen âthe majority of our schoolsâ in his first 100 days in office. In January he specified that the goal applied only to schools that teach through eighth grade. And this week the White House said that schools will be considered opened as long as they teach in-person at least one day a week.
