TOP OF THE AGENDA | Putin leads Russia's Victory Day commemorations |

| | China's Xi stood alongside Putin, an indication of his significance in Friday's parade. Credit: Ria Novosti/Efe | Russia has held a huge military parade in Moscow to mark the 80th anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany in the Second World War. Addressing the event, President Vladimir Putin sought to link the war to the current conflict with Ukraine, saying soldiers were once again fighting against "Nazism" and "antisemitism". Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the event as a "parade of cynicism". Both sides have accused each other of breaking a three-day ceasefire announced by Russia to coincide with the parade, hundreds of times. Despite western efforts to isolate Russia over its aggression, many world leaders attended the event, including Chinese President Xi Jinping whose presence - stood next to Putin - was seen as a significant achievement for the Russian president. |

- On the ground: Ukrainian soldiers and civilians say attacks are continuing, despite the ceasefire. "Russia can't be trusted. In the evening they call a truce and in the morning they attack," one soldier told the BBC.
- Ceasefire "farce": Both sides have accused each other of violating the truce hundreds of times.

| BEYOND THE HEADLINES | Hong Kong pro-China informer: 'Why I've reported dozens of people to police' |
|
| | | Innes Tang says he set up a hotline with his own money to receive reports of alleged national security infringements. Credit: Innes Tang | "We're in every corner of society, watching, to see if there is anything suspicious," says Innes Tang, an ex-banker who reports Hong Kong residents to the police for behaviours he deems disloyal to Beijing. From a woman waving a colonial-era flag, to bakery staff selling cakes with protest symbols on, he says he and his followers have reported nearly 100 people and organisations - some of whom, he says, have been jailed. |
