| Chinese narratives on the Israel-Hamas war Since Hamas’s October 7 terrorist attack on Israel and the subsequent Israeli strikes on Gaza, Beijing has positioned itself as an advocate for peace, calling for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state while criticizing the United States’ support for Israel. However, unlike elsewhere in the world, the crisis has not generated much of a public reaction within China.
