My Top Trade for 2025: Natural Gas, Diversification

As we step into 2025, the market is shaping up to be a volatile landscape — one where traders — not passive investors — are likely to thrive.

With that in mind, my focus is on finding opportunities in energy, diversification plays and strategies that align with the new administration’s priorities.

Here are my top picks for the year, along with my broader trading perspective.

Energy: Natural Gas Takes Center Stage

One of my favorite plays this year is natural gas. It’s been nicknamed “the widowmaker” for a reason, but after years of underperformance, I believe it’s ready for a comeback.

My go-to instrument is the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG), which has been breaking through significant technical levels. I’m currently trading this using a diagonal spread — buying deep in-the-money, long-dated calls while selling shorter-term calls to generate income.

My target for UNG is in the $21.50 to $25 range, offering a solid return on risk for traders with a tactical approach.

Diversification Beyond the Indexes

While many are chasing the Nasdaq 100 and S&P 500, I’m finding opportunities in less correlated areas. For example, I’m keeping an eye on energy stocks that could benefit from deregulation under the new administration.

These include natural gas and traditional oil players. Additionally, I believe nuclear energy could become a significant theme in the next decade, with companies like Cameco (CCJ) positioned to capitalize on the growth of small modular reactors.

Risk Management in a Volatile Market

This year is shaping up to be one for active traders rather than buy-and-hold investors. With that in mind, I’m emphasizing strategies that balance risk and reward.

Cash-secured puts and bear traps are among my favorite strategies right now.

These allow me to generate income on stocks I’m willing to own while maintaining high probabilities of profit. For example, I recently executed a trade on Netflix (NFLX), structuring it to either earn premium or take ownership of the stock at a deep discount.

Bitcoin and Crypto: A Watchlist Play

I’m cautiously optimistic about Bitcoin and crypto-related stocks in 2025. As the regulatory environment shifts, Bitcoin has the potential to break higher, which could lift associated stocks like Riot Platforms (RIOT).

That said, I’m approaching these with a trader’s mindset — focused on short-term momentum rather than long-term holds.

Navigating 2025 will require precision and adaptability. My focus is on energy plays like UNG, diversification through niche sectors like nuclear energy, and income-generating strategies that thrive in volatile conditions.

This year, success will come from being proactive, tactical, and unafraid to trade against the herd when the opportunities arise.

How the Daily Chart Setup Works

Here’s a more detailed description of how the pattern triggers:

1. The price breaks upward through the orange Market Roadmap Line.

2. Then the price goes up and down while staying above the line. Eventually, it comes down to touch the line again — this could take days, weeks or even months.

3. Once it touches the line and starts moving back up, that signals an entry.

I use Fibonacci levels for for profit targets and stop losses, and these two tools combined have helped me achieve a 77% win rate over the past six-plus years!
