Chris Thile and Aoife O'Donvoan will join us for a Celebrity Series at Home streaming concert on Friday, March 12th at 7:30pm EST. The digital concert will be followed by a live Q+A with the artists.
Thile and O'Donovan have performed on The Series many times before, but this is their first duo performance together! They were originally scheduled to perform separately in March 2020. In fact, Aoife O'Donovan's live show would have been exactly one year to the day before this streaming concert airs.
The duo recently collaborated on an album titled Not Our First Goat Rodeo, which was released in the summer of 2020. They were joined by cellist Yo-Yo Ma, bassist Edgar Meyer, and violinist Stuart Duncan.
These long-time friends and musical collaborators will bring the spark and joy of their musical friendship to this digital performance recorded exclusively for Celebrity Series audiences.
Following the premiere, the concert will be available for on-demand viewing for ticket holders until Thursday, March 18 at 7:00pm EST. Tickets are on sale for $20.
This performance is generously sponsored by Susan & Michael Thonis and Kathleen & Chris Gaffney.
Multiple Grammy Award-winner and MacArthur Fellow Chris Thile, a member of Punch Brothers and Nickel Creek, and former host of the radio program, Live from Here, is a mandolin virtuoso, composer and vocalist. With his broad outlook that encompasses classical, rock, jazz, and bluegrass, Thile transcends the borders of conventionally circumscribed genres, creating a distinctly American canon and a new musical aesthetic for performers and audiences alike.
As a soloist, Thile has released several albums including his most recent, Thanks for Listening, a collection of recordings, produced by Thomas Bartlett, originally written as Songs of the Week for A Prairie Home Companion.
Recognized for her ethereal voice and substantive songwriting, Aoife O’Donovan is also known for her collaborations. Called “a vocalist of unerring instinct” by the New York Times, O’Donovan is one of the most sought-after vocalists and songwriters of her generation and her career has allowed her to collaborate with some of the most eminent names in music across a wide variety of genres.
Co-founder of the bands Crooked Still and I’m With Her, O’Donovan is the featured vocalist on The Goat Rodeo Sessions, the Grammy-winning album by Yo-Yo Ma, Stuart Duncan, Edgar Meyer, and Chris Thile. O’Donovan also sings in the house band on the radio variety show Live From Here.
