Where's Johnny Jet?

Merry Christmas! I was hoping for a white Christmas this year in Toronto, but it doesn’t look like that will happen. Heck, it’s going to be almost the same temperature there as in southern California. Even more shocking is that it’s going to be 73ºF in New York City tomorrow. Whoa!
Growing up in nearby Connecticut, we almost always had a white Christmas and I can’t remember a Christmas where you could wear shorts. To get in the Christmas and winter spirit I’ve been posting some photos on Instagram (I’m johnnyjet) that I took last April in Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada (like the one above). Why am I posting past pics? Aside from the above reasons, I’ve been stuck at home sick.
You see I thought I had the perfect plan for my dad’s belated birthday present: We would spend four nights in Florida and six nights in California before flying together to Chicago. In ORD I would put him on a plane to NY so he could spend Christmas with his grandkids and I would go see my wife in Toronto. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out as planned. My dad got sick and I couldn’t leave him alone with a fever. Then, of course, I caught something myself that included one of the worst sore throats ever. Long story short: We’re both in LA on antibiotics recovering.
I’m now hoping to catch a ride on Santa’s sleigh to see my wife, but my dad has decided to stay behind. He doesn’t want to travel since he was planning on retuning in early January to spend the winter in California. You can tell he’s not into miles and points like I am. I have three more flights before 2016 totaling 7,500 miles.
The New York Times Travel Show
I'll be speaking at The New York Times Travel Show on Sunday, January 10, with my colleague Chris McGinnis. If you want to come see us, the first 100 people to use the code when registering (here) ROCKSTAR get in for free. Otherwise it’ll be $20 at the door.
Allianz contest winners!
As you may recall, Allianz Global Assistance has been running a contest in which it's giving away a free trip to New York for the Times show and to have dinner with yours truly and Allianz’s other brand ambassadors. Well, they've just announced the winners! Check them out here.
