USB-C Buck-Boost IC Supports
NVDC and HPBB Battery Charging

Renesas Electronics has introduced what it claims is the first USB-C buck-boost battery charger to support both Narrow Voltage Direct Charging (NVDC) and Hybrid Power Buck-Boost (HPBB) charging for notebooks, ultrabooks, tablets and power banks using the reversible USB Type-C connector cable. Through firmware control, the ISL9241 can switch between NVDC and HPBB modes. The device leverages Renesas' R3 modulation technology for high light-load efficiency and ultra-fast transient response to extend battery run-time. The charger's reconfigurable internal registers allow the use of a smaller inductor for HPBB mode to achieve higher efficiencies across multiple power levels.

Railway DC-DC Converter Pair Feature
Integrated Heat Sinks

Aimtec has Introduced the AM20CWR-ZK and AM25EUW-Z railway DC-DC converters. They are 20 W and 25 W devices respectively. The AM20CWR-ZK series offers a a wide input voltage range of 13-176 VDC and an output voltage range from 3.3 V to 15 V. The AM25EUW-Z series offers a 10:1 input voltage range of 16-160 VDC and provides an output voltage range from 5 V to 24 V.

Both series provide an inbuilt heat sink offering wide operating temperature range, from -40°C to 100°C. The devices also feature an isolation of 3,000 VDC for improved reliability and system safety. Furthermore, a higher MTBF of 190,000 hrs., output short circuit protection (OSCP), output over-current protection (OCP) and an output over- voltage protection (OVP) come standard with both series. The AM20CWR-ZK is offered in a 1 x 1 package and the AM25EUW-Z in a 2 x 1 package.

Super-Junction MOSFETs Target Energy-Saving Power Topologies
    
STMicroelectronics offers its MDmesh M6 series of 600 V super-junction transistors. They are engineered for high efficiency in medium-power resonant and hard-switching converter topologies. The threshold voltage optimized for soft switching makes the new transistors well suited for LLC resonant converters and boost-PFC converters in energy-conscious applications. MDmesh M6 devices perform efficiently in hard-switching topologies too, with their capacitance profile enhancing light-load efficiency and gate charge (Qg) as low as 16 nC permitting high switching frequencies.

In addition, ST's M6 super-junction technology helps reduce RDS(ON) to as little as 0.036 ohms, providing extra efficiency gains and increasing power density in equipment such as battery chargers, power adapters, PC power supplies, LED-lighting drivers, telecom and server power supplies and solar micro-inverters.
