| RS-485 Transceivers Provide 2x Faster Data Rates Maxim Integrated Products has announced the MAX22500E, MAX22501E and MAX22502, a set of RS-485 transceivers that enable Industrial designers to achieve 2x faster data rates and extend cable length by up to 50%. With motion control systems requiring more accuracy over longer distances, system designers are challenged to maintain faster data rates and achieve robust communications with longer cables. A production site, for example, may not function efficiently with a slow data rate and short cables because it must transfer accurate information quickly and over a long distance. The MAX22500E/MAX22501E (half-duplex) and MAX22502E (full-duplex) ESD-protected RS-485/RS-422 transceivers extend the reach of communication up to 100 Mbps over 50 m. This provides the industry's fastest data rates for accurate, cost-effective and robust communication across long cables for a variety of motion control applications. The settable pre-emphasis feature within the MAX22500E and MAX22502E enables 2x faster data rates compared to competitive solutions for increased encoder resolution and reduced latency. Pre-emphasis extends cables up to 50% longer to communicate over longer distances. A large receiver hysteresis (250 mV) provides superior robustness to EFT. In addition, by improving the signal integrity and robustness, system designers can achieve the same level of performance with lower-cost cables. The transceivers operate over the -40 to +125°C temperature range. . Certified to the medical 60601-1 edition 3.1 safety standards for 2 x MOPP applications and 4th edition EMC requirements, the VMS-180, VMS-225, VMS-275, VMS-350 and VMS-550 supplies feature high efficiency up to 94% and high power densities up to 30 W-per-cubic-inches. The new models are housed in 2 x 4 inch (50 x 101 mm) and 3 x 5 inch (76 x 127 mm) packages with profiles measuring as low as 0.75 inches (19 mm), providing a compact, high density solution for medical diagnostic equipment, medical monitoring devices and dental applications. All of the new VMS power supplies provide output voltage options from 12 VDC to 58 VDC, feature wide universal input voltage ranges from 80 to 264 VAC and offer no-load power consumption as low as 0.5 W. The 180 W to 550 W models also carry an input to output isolation of 4,200 VAC with leakage current ratings as low as 0.3 mA at 230 VAC. Operating temperatures range at full load from -40°C up to +50°C with forced air cooling, derating to 50% load at +70°C. Active Rectifier Controller Has Reverse Protection Analog Devices has announced the Power by Linear LT8672, an active rectifier controller with reverse input protection to -40 V. Its 3 V to 42 V input voltage capability is well suited for automotive applications that must regulate through cold-crank and stop-start scenarios with minimum input voltages as low as 3.0 V and load dump transients up to 40 V. The LT8672 drives an external N-channel MOSFET, offering a 20 mV drop, reducing power dissipation by 90% compared to a Schottky diode, eliminating requirements for a costly heat sink. The ultra fast transient response enables it to meet stringent automotive applications requiring AC input ripple rectification up to 100 kHz. Additionally, its 20 µA quiescent current while operating and 3.5 µA in shutdown are ideal for always-on systems. The combination of the MSOP-10 package and external MOSFET ensures a compact solution footprint. The LT8672 offers the combination of 3 V minimum input capability and a 20 mV drop, enabling it to ease the minimum input voltage requirement during cold-crank and stop-start, providing simpler and more efficient circuits. If the input power source fails or is shorted, a very fast turn-off minimizes reverse current transients. Also, a "power good" pin signals when the external MOSFET is ready to take load current. LED Lighting Controller for Automotive Subsystems Texas Instruments has introduced the first 3-channel high-side linear automotive LED controller without internal MOSFETs that gives designers greater flexibility for their lighting designs. The TPS92830-Q1's novel architecture enables higher power and better thermal dissipation than conventional LED controllers, and are particularly beneficial for automotive LED lighting applications that require high performance and reliability. Conventional LED drivers integrate the MOSFET, which limits designers' ability to customize features. With that type of driver, designers often must make significant design modifications to achieve the desired system performance. The TPS92830-Q1 LED controller's flexible on-board features give designers the freedom to select the best MOSFET for their system requirements. With this new approach, designers can more quickly and efficiently optimize their lighting power designs for automotive system requirements and desired dimming features. CONTINUE READING DC/DC Advanced Bus Converter Delivers 1,000 W Flex Power Modules has announced the launch of the BMR480, a new DC/DC advanced bus converter that targets high-end and high-power applications and can handle 1,000 W of power and 96.2 A of peak current. Flex Power Modules is part of the Power Division of Flex. Coming in an industry-standard and low-profile quarter-brick-format with dimensions of 58.4 x 36.8 x 12.19 mm (2.30 x 1.45 x 0.48 inches), the BMR480 operates from a wide 40 V to 60 V input voltage range and offers multiple tightly regulated (+/-2.5%) pre-programmed outputs at 10.4 V, 12 V and 12.5 V but can be factory configured at any voltage between 9 V and 13.2 V. The BMR480 module employs Flex's Hybrid Regulated Ratio (HRR) technology that enables better utilization of the power train to deliver high-power conversion across its wide input voltage range. In addition, delivering exemplary performance for applications that operate in high ambient temperatures with limited airflow, the module offers power conversion of up to 97% efficiency, at 53 V and half load, while also keeping power losses low.
