STM Launches an Automotive AI Edge for State Classification

Just a few days ago, STMicroelectronics launched a new automotive AI Kit on the Edge for car state classification. The AEKD-AICAR1 is based on long-short term memory (LSTM) recurrent neural network (RNN).

The kit provides car state classifications such as a car parked, a car driving on normal road conditions, a car driving on a bumpy road, or the car swerving or skidding..

Adafruit's FeatherWing puts Power-monitoring Problems in the Past

Adafruit's INA219 FeatherWing puts power-monitoring problems in the past. Instead of struggling with two multimeters, the INA219 chip can be used on the breakout to measure both the high side voltage and DC current draw over an I2C with 1% precision.

The chip works with any and all Feathers from Adafruit. Since it communicates over I2C it is extremely simple to use, and the I2C address is configurable to have up to four of these Wings on one Feather.

Embedded Systems Moves into Forefront

With so many companies taking on Artificial Intelligence (AI) design and development, it has pushed embedded systems into the forefront of the computer industry. Looking towards NXP, STMicroelectronics, and SiFive, the biggest companies are expanding their embedded portfolios across a wide range of devices and uses.

In most sectors of the industry, there is a rapid increase in productivity and a CAGR of 4.7% over the next eight years. Companies are developing AI-driven devices at a much higher rate than ever before. The smart car is fast approaching, and the intelligent home is already meeting the needs of savvy consumers.

The embedded systems fuelling the rise of the IoT craze are becoming a standard in most manufacturing and warehousing. Robots are becoming a necessary utility, not just at the highest levels of the industrial markets, but in startups and smaller companies overall.

The main uses for embedded systems are seeing a widening of the ranges of computing ability and some embedded systems companies are trying to make sure their new products have the longevity to last in an environment of constant monthly innovation and advancement in the systems being invented.
