Neural Computing with an AI Development Bundle Running Intel NCS2

One of the ways do-it-yourselfers and makers get their development jones on is through Kickstarter.io kits and bundles. One of the latest is deep learning, neural computing with an AI development bundle. The kit boasts an x86 Atomic Pi with Intel’s new Neural Compute Stick 2 (NCS2). Team IoT, creators of the kit, are being helped along by Intel’s NCS2 hardware and support.

Partnership Between Variscite and Foundries.io Deliver a Secure Embedded IoT Platform, Helping Millions of Developers

Foundries.io a cloud-native development and development solutions company, in the secure internet of things (IoT) and Edge devices sector, announced its partnership with Variscite. The partnership is designed to simplify the deployment and development, as well as management of secure IoT and Edge products. These would find a home on Variscite’s System on Module and Computer on Module, based on NXP Semiconductor’s i.MX processors.

Microcontroller Giants are Joining Together to Build Chips World Wide

While reports vary, the Internet-of-Things industry has well over 5 billion connected devices and is growing so fast, that no one can keep up. Estimates of the market share for IoT-related industries is well into the $4 – 11 trillion range over the next 3 years.

The consumer sector in IoT is the fastest growing section of the market, and with good reason, it also has the most products. Electricity, gas, steam, and AC as well as manufacturing a much smaller portion of the industry, even though they are significant factors to growth. Right now there are over 400 active IoT platforms worldwide, with 152,000 IoT devices connecting to the internet every minute. The developments in IoT are growing with the sector.

Projected revenue for Smart City technology, products and services is projected to reach over $220 billion this year. This is revenue all companies are generating by offering technologies and products that use data and information to create value in the public sector of cities. This would be infrastructure (cloud computing and connectivity technologies) companies, not smart home products.

The projected installed base of IoT connected devices is projected to be at least 30.9 billion units by 2025, a sharp jump from the 13.5 billion devices that are projected for this year.

The major sector of IoT that is growing rapidly is connected cars. This sector is the largest segment of the global 5G IoT endpoint market, with the an installed base market share of 39 percent by 2023. This works out to about 19 million endpoints, or base installed devices. The segment is expected to grow to 49 million endpoints by 2023.

This explosive growth is due in large part to the changing lifestyle of the average consumer. While non-IoT devices, like smartphones, laptops, and computer desktops, are growing, they lag behind IoT devices by a wide margin. That margin is only growing. People are relying more and more on their homes being connected through devices to the internet. Such routine products as light bulbs and thermostats are now centrally controlled, and much of it by voice. Televisions and cars are coming right along behind the simpler products and devices.

IoT is the future of devices, for smart homes, smart cities, and smart cars.
