MCUs Enable Efficient Inverter Control in Motors
Renesas Electronics has launched the RX13T Group of 32-bit MCUs to enable highly efficient inverter control of compact motors such as fans or pumps in consumer and industrial applications that previously controlled motor operation through on-off switching. This includes factory equipment where energy efficiency is a priority such as water discharge, supply pumps or cooling fans for data sensor servers.
ESP32 Tools Marry Alexa Service and AWS IoT
Espressif Systems has announced the availability of its Alexa Voice Service (AVS) Integration with the AWS IoT Core for ESP32-based connected devices. This solution relies on Espressif’s ESP32 wireless SoC and DSP Group’s DBMD5P audio SoC. The resulting ESP32-Vaquita-DSPG (shown), Espressif’s new development kit, provides seamless voice integration and cloud connectivity when creating IoT devices with a built-in Alexa Voice Service.

Jump-Start Your FPGA Project
FPGAs are conquering more and more application areas, which is no wonder given their vast parallel performance, flexibility and scalability. From simple interfacing devices to complete system-on-a-programmable-chip developments with integrated Arm processors and multi-gigabit interfaces: the possibilities of FPGAs are almost unlimited. Using a standard FPGA or SoC module—be it based on an Intel or Xilinx FPGA or SoC—in combination with tested and proven IP cores, your entry into FPGA technology can be quick and easy.
Low-Cost MCU Family Targets Low-Power Designs
STMicroelectronics has announced its new STM32L4P5 and STM32L4Q5 MCUs. They are designed to bring the performance of the Arm Cortex-M4 core to cost-sensitive and power-conscious smart connected devices, including utility meters, industrial and medical sensors, fitness trackers and smart-home products.
Build a Simple Quadcopter Drone Using a PIC32 MCU
Small quadcopter-style drones represent one of the most exciting areas of embedded system design in recent years. Learn how these three Cornell students designed, constructed and tested an autonomous quadcopter that uses a Microchip PIC32 MCU as its flight controller and acquires data from an onboard IMU.
IAR Functional Safety Toolset Supports Latest Renesas RX MCUs
IAR Systems has launched a new version of its functional safety edition of IAR Embedded Workbench for Renesas’ RX family MCUs. This new version adds extended capabilities including IDE features for improved user experience, stack protection and support for the latest C18 and C++17 language standards. In addition, the toolchain now supports the latest RX devices including the RX66T, RX72T, RX65N and RX72M (shown) MCUs with Renesas Trusted Secure IP.
