Texas Instruments and TDK Collaborate on the World’s First Sensor Module that has Edge AI and Wireless Mesh Built-In

Texas Instruments and TDK collaborate on the world's first sensor module that has Edge AI and wireless mesh built-in. TDK announces the i3 Micro Module, a system with wireless mesh connectivity and edge AI, built-in.

The unit integrates the TI SimpleLink platform, which features a CC2652R7 Arm Cortex-M4F Microcontroller (MCU). The MCU is a multiprotocol 2.4 GHz wireless 32-bit system with real-time monitoring

MCUs now have Edge AI Built-in

Circuit Cellar fans, there is edge AI on the horizon for MCUs, and wireless sensors.

This week's roundup has a number of new and interesting twists. The Micro Module from TDK/TI is quite literally a new thing, Edge AI built-in, to a sensor module that is wireless. No hands, no wires, great for predictive maintenance inside machinery. But the unit has many features and one of them is an MCU that comes with an Arm Cortex-M4F core. The leading companies behind this innovation are banking on IoT becoming so common, that the sensors themselves can compute, before the gateway.

The other area of merit today is the Smart Device, with STMicroelectronics launching MCUs with their Secure Manager, the way is paved for more compute power in tighter spaces, thanks to reduced circuit board sizes.

Some of the smart devices that could be security orientated, and the Secure Manager is a first with System-on-Chip security services delivered through an API.
