While the offerings in open source for MCUs are tight, even Arm Keil is relenting somewhat in its hold on the programming inside its processors. This announcement from NXP holds weight in the industry and people are beginning to talk. Open source offers better customer relations, more options means more customers, especially for the giants who find themselves with a bit of an oversupply of chips. But all the manufacturers are toying with open source programming. It is still the future of manufacturing in the computer industry, and product deployment will probably have a proprietary aspect and an open aspect. |
