An analog challenge for a digital age

During the pandemic, I made the decision to introduce tablets and other electronic devices into my home for my children, Blair and Harper. Some of you may remember them from when I contributed guest posts to the site. My being a reporter here is quite a full circle moment, isn't it?

These devices became necessary to support their at-home learning. However, I have observed some potential negative effects of games like Minecraft and Roblox on their attention spans and their inclination to engage in non-digital activities.

Personally, one of my favorite analog activities is playing records. Last night, I encouraged each of my children to pursue different analog activities. I challenged my 11-year-old, who is accustomed to spending time on Zoom with friends while playing games like those aforementioned ones, to read a book. This was a bit of a change for him, but an important one. On the other hand, my 9-year-old, Harper, whose birthday was just last week, was tasked with exploring her creativity through art and crafts.
