City council says yes to University Ave. gas station project

Good morning and welcome back to the Acadiana Business Newsletter. Let's get on to the headlines because your minutes, just like mine, are precious: 

The Lafayette City Council on Tuesday approved plans for a convenience store with gasoline sales at a site near Four Corners, going against a vote of the city zoning commission, recommendation from the planning department and the wishes of nearby residents.

Ahead of the vote, Council Member Andy Naquin suggested an amendment that requires an 8-foot privacy fence around the business and limits operations to the hours of 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. The council then approved the amended ordinance in a 3-2 vote, which allows a conditional use permit for a gas station at 1803 and 1809 W. University Ave. in a neighborhood that is part of Lafayette's gateway project.
