About the Arboretum | The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum welcomes, informs and inspires all through outstanding plant displays, protected natural areas, horticultural research and innovative education. We strive to create a welcoming space to learn from and connect with nature. Founded in 1958, we are a member-driven non-profit with more than 1,200 acres of professionally-maintained gardens, rare plant collections and accessible trails. A part of the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences at the University of Minnesota, the Arboretum is engaged in cold-hardy plant research and has developed 27 commercial apples, including Honeycrisp, Harrelson and First Kiss. In 2019, USA Today readers named the Arboretum the best botanical garden in North America. In 2021, the Arboretum earned Level IV Accreditation by The ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program and The Morton Arboretum, for achieving particular standards of professional practices deemed important for arboreta and botanic gardens. |
