Team Clark Survey Results!
Earlier this week we asked you to share your favorite memory of your first car. Here are a few of the submissions that we received:
  • 1985 VW Cabriolet: Stalled the car at a stop sign next to a bocce ball court for a solid week. The first night they managed to put it in first gear without stalling, the little old men stopped their game to clap.
  • 1978 Mercury Monarch: It had a transmission issue where it would appear to be in park, but it wasn't really parked. One morning, the car backed about 60+ feet down our driveway and it was doing circles in reverse, also blocking a major country road. A kind (and slightly crazy) motorist saw me trying to figure out how to dive into the car and stop it. He grabbed the bumper, slowing it down enough for me to open the back door, dive in, flip into the front seat and stop the car.
  • 1974 Ford Mercury Zephyr: I accidentally got a railroad crossing arm stuck INSIDE my car. The red and white arm was malfunctioning. When I went to drive around it, I miscalculated and it slipped inside the open passenger window like a key in a lock. Between the red light flashing, the railroad alarm bells and the metal window lining being destroyed, it was like a disco in my car.
  • 1937 Chevrolet Coupe: I bought it at age 16 with $400 I had saved from working at the gas station across the street from my home. Of all the cars I have owned in the past 70+ years, my fondest memories are of it.
Curious about Clark's first car? How much do you think he paid for it? He goes into detail in this video.
