Clemency denied for 56 death row prisoners

Clemency denied: Louisiana's pardon board has rejected applications for clemency from 56 death row prisoners, saying that none of them are currently eligible for that relief, John Simerman reports. Gov. John Bel Edwards could order the board to reverse course, but it's unclear if he will do so. 


Acre Road: Housing officials have vowed to stop evicting tenants at the Acre Road housing development in Marrero while tenants' lawsuit against those evictions plays out, Ballard reports. A federal judge Thursday agreed to take local officials at their word and did not issue an order to stop the evictions. 


Pay up, Washington: Gov. John Bel Edwards went to Washington this week to lay bare climate change's stark impact on Louisiana and persuade congressional leaders to grant the state more money to address it, Mark Ballard reports. The money would come from revenue the government generates from offshore drilling.
