Hi Friends!

We hope you're loving September as much as we are. Hiking conditions are sweet right now!

Dave is headed out to backpack in Idaho's stunning Sawtooth Mountains this week. Meanwhile, Casey is returning to the Arizona Trail to see parts of this magical route that were snowbound when she thru-hiked last spring.

We've been testing gear like crazy and just added a bunch of great items to our Gear Guides. Take a look at some of the freshly updated guides below to see what's new.

Are you an experienced writer and editor who’s deeply passionate about outdoor adventure? CleverHiker is looking to hire a Managing Editor to lead our content production team. For more details about the position and instructions on how to apply, check out our listing on Indeed.

As always, thanks for following along, and enjoy your time in the wilderness!

Durston X-Mid Pro 2
Backpacking Tent Review

The Durston X-Mid Pro 2 gets a lot of hype in UL circles, but does it live up to the praise? Read on to see our honest thoughts and analysis after field-testing this tent.
Wallowa River Loop Backpacking Guide
The Wallowa Mountain Range, located in the Eagle Cap Wilderness of eastern Oregon, is one of the most stunning areas to backpack in the Pacific Northwest.
Best Camping Chairs
Whether you’re circling around a campfire or on the lawn for a concert, you need a comfy seat to relax in. We put the most popular camping chairs to the test to help you find the perfect one.
Best Trekking Poles
Trekking poles reduce impact on your knees, increase balance, and help you ford rivers. But many trekking poles are pretty similar in design, so it can be a daunting task to find your perfect pair.
Best Headlamps
Everyone should own a headlamp. Whether you’re going on a backpacking trip, walking the dog in the evening, or car camping with friends, a hands-free light is an essential tool.
Best Backpacking Cookware
If you’re in the market for new backpacking cookware, you’ve come to the right place. Our team of outdoor experts has used dozens of cooksets to make hundreds of meals on trails all over the world.
GEAR PICK OF THE WEEK

The Black Diamond Pursuit trekking poles are some of the lightest all-aluminum, cork-handled trekking poles we’ve ever tested. This means you’re getting the best of all worlds - the comfort of cork, the durability of aluminum, and not much added weight over carbon fiber poles.

We were very impressed by the balanced feel of the Pursuits from the moment we touched carbide tip to trail, so it was a no-brainer to give them a top spot
on our list of the Best Trekking Poles
